The Unattainable

Oftentimes I think that if I just get to the top of an issue and conquer it, life will be down hill from there. Frequently, I entertain the thought that somehow, some zenith with be reached. In truth, my unspoken expectation is that eventually life will {should} get easier. And in some ways, it will.

Someday we wont be parenting 4 kids 5 and under.
Someday we wont be building a house ourselves and on the verge of moving.
Someday where I live wont be such a struggle.
Someday certain issues will be worked out.
Someday {sweet goodness hopefully} my kids will be able to wipe their own bums
Someday. Someday. Someday.

The reality, however, is that life is a battle. A constant battle. This side of eternity we will battle. We will battle hard. Valleys and mountaintops. Trials and triumphs. One thing goes up, another goes down. One bill paid, another due. One issue dealt with, another issue emerges. Happiness and grief. Joy and sorrow. In the midst, mercy, peace, grace and hope.

Easy? An illusion. Unattainable. Unrealistic. And I know I should be thankful to be pushed out of the comfort of the temporal. {Should}

Embracing sweet mercies. Letting go of the unattainable. Pressing on.

***
Your life is short, your duties many, your assistance great, and your reward sure; therefore faint not, hold on and hold up, in ways of well-doing, and heaven shall make amends for all.

Amen.

What more can I say?

In the battle with you, dear friend. Just had the 'why you are not old enough to wipe your own bum-bum yet' conversation today.

My oldest {almost 11} is past the bum-bum issue, by far, but is moving into the emotional teen-ish years. He *swears* he has *a* chest hair. This is what comes after the bum-bums, Kathy. It doesn't get better or easier, just different. I have learned through much trial that parenting is a life-long role. It doesn't go away so much after diapers. I am now realizing it won't be easier when they are married and on their own. . .just different.

Thankful to be in it for the long haul with gracious, humble friends such as you. Hang in there - pray for God to strengthen your arms for the tasks at hand today.

Much love coming your way -Hollie

Hang. In. There. As I had my 3 on & off my lap at the department of motor vehicles today (joy) a woman told me "These are the best days." I'm working to believe and not complain. Better is one day...
